A Softer Approach to Wedding Flowers

Few things feel as romantic as wedding flowers in full bloom. The softness they bring to a table, the way they transform a space, the emotion tied to a bouquet carried down the aisle. But at Bower, we’ve been thinking more intentionally about how florals can feel both beautiful and thoughtful.

Lately, we’ve found ourselves drawn to a more sustainable approach to wedding flowers. One that embraces potted plants, living arrangements, seasonal blooms and pieces designed to have a life beyond the wedding day itself.

We love the idea of florals that continue living long after the last dance. Herbs planted in aged terracotta vessels. Potted jasmine climbing around a ceremony space. Small olive trees lining an aisle that later become part of a couple’s home or garden. Even tabletop arrangements made with rooted plants or mosses that can be replanted instead of discarded.

Beyond sustainability, there’s something deeply romantic about it. Living plants create a layered, grounded atmosphere that feels organic and full of character — less overly perfected, more timeless European countryside. They soften a space in a way that feels effortless. We also encourage couples to lean into what’s naturally in season. Seasonal blooms tend to feel more authentic to the setting and often require less transportation and waste. We love incorporating flowering branches, herbs, fruiting vines and textural greenery alongside traditional florals to create arrangements that feel abundant without excess.

Another favorite approach of ours is designing with intention around reuse throughout the day. Ceremony arrangements that later frame the reception bar. Clustered potted plants that move from cocktail hour to lounge spaces. Aisle arrangements repurposed around dinner tables. Thoughtful floral design doesn’t have to mean doing less — it simply means designing smarter.

At the end of the day, sustainability in weddings doesn’t have to feel stark or overly minimal. It can still feel lush, romantic, editorial and deeply beautiful. In many ways, we think it creates spaces that feel even more alive.

At Bower, we’re always inspired by celebrations that balance beauty with intention—weddings that feel welcoming, layered and connected to the world around them. And we have a feeling thoughtful floral design is only becoming more timeless.
